History

Entrepreneur Nicola Samyn started Transferium in 2002 with just one crane. Today, Transferium operates in three areas of expertise: Stevedoring, Biomass and Cargo Handling.

Transferium was initially started as a storage and transhipment company that experienced strong growth for 20 years. With a strong reputation within the cement, building materials and soil industry, the field of action and expertise was continuously expanded. Bulk goods were initially the focus, but in the meantime many other types of products are also part of the portfolio.

Transferium's extensive terminal network today comprises 3 strategic water-bound locations: Ghent, Brussels, and Roeselare.

Since 2023, the company has also been a highly valued partner of the Multi Logistics Group.

Together you get further: Multi Logistics Group

Working closely with Multi Logistics Group, Transferium has been appointed as the new operator of River Terminal Roeselare. This modern 1.8-hectare transhipment platform has a 230-metre long quay on the busy Roeselare-Leie Canal, and offers optimal facilities for efficient cargo handling.

Ghent concession expansion: ‘Rieme Noord’

To meet growth and increasing demand for storage capacity, Transferium is acquiring a new 3.1-hectare concession in the immediate vicinity of its Ghent seaport terminal. A permit application is also being submitted for the further development of this concession.

Record transhipment: 1.209.000 tonnes

At the terminal in Ghent a record transhipment was achieved with a volume of 1.209.000 tonnes, and that on only 300 metres of quay. This makes this quay one of the busiest per running metre in North Sea Port.
